Having trouble maintaining or even reaching your fitness goals? Many studies have shown that despite all the good dynamic workouts we perform, we cannot get ripped without the proper diet and nutrition. In fact, the old adage says that getting results is really 90 percent diet, and 10 percent exercise. You can do as many weighted jump rope exercises or crossfit exercises, but the simple truth is that you need to be in a caloric deficit. There are dangers of course with a diet like this, but contemplate supplementing dietary needs with acai, a superfood that will help you reach your goals.
It is inherently important to lower caloric intake, but also vital to increase the nutritional benefit within the means. In other words, eat foods that will provide you with fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. The acai berry has been promoted as a superfood with antioxidant properties. Antioxidants are believed to be important in the fight against free radicals in your body. Anything that changes form from water dissolving to the digestion of food requires a chemical reaction to occur. Well the loss of electrons means they’re going to be floating around in your body, meaning they can start other chain reactions, like death to a cell. Antioxidants are important because they help eliminate the free radicals by bonding to them. Other antioxidants include vitamin C and polyphenols, a component found in acai berries.
Acai bowls are the latest trend, but their popularity means a scarcity and premium to their price. Since acai berries come mainly from Brazil, there are limited amount of vendors in America. Doing an online search will yield a few, but reliable supplier. You can also visit your local Whole Foods or Trader Joes for acai berries. Additionally, they come in the powder or frozen form, so you will have to do some whipping up in the kitchen for your power breakfast, or healthy snack.
Our favorite thing to make with acai berries are acai bowls. To make a 2-3 serving bowl, you’ll need:
1 acai pouch (can be frozen or powder)
1 banana and a few pieces of sliced banana for garnishment
1/3 cup of blueberries
1 cup of strawberries
½ cup of apple juice (this will be your emulsifier)
-1/3 cup of flaxseed granola
To make a delicious acai bowl, simply combine the acai berries or powder, the whole banana, strawberries, and the apple juice into a blender. Blend all ingredients until desired texture, or until smooth. Scoop the contents into a bowl, top it with blue berries, banana, and strawberries and enjoy!
Eating and living healthy is not a hard task, but requires a lot of determination and discipline. Making an acai bowl takes no more than 5 minutes – the time it takes for one to order food from a drive thru line. The good thing about an acai bowl? It is extremely nutritious and provides satiety, meaning you’ll be full longer and be on track to lowering daily caloric intake. Good luck but as always, consult a medical professional prior to engaging in a new diet, because every person has their dietary restriction and necessities.
